How We Work

ADU programs require broad expertise and innovation, from analysis of state laws and ordinances to one-on-one community engagement for case studies and user-friendly materials for homeowners. We have extensive experience in all aspects. Each community we work with faces a unique set of challenges to ADU development, and we approach each project flexibly and individually.

Homeowner & Tenant Case Studies

A collection of powerful, inspiring stories about ADU homeowners and tenants

Stories have the power to inspire. We work with you to source, produce, and curate inspirational stories from community members who have built or benefited from ADUs—delivered through written accounts, professional real estate photography, and highly-produced video interviews. These stories help people visualize what it’s like to build an ADU and the possible benefits for their family and community.

Process Improvements & Staff Resources

Clarity for staff and faster, easier project approval

We work closely with local staff, officials, and homeowners to clarify permitting, approvals, and other parts of the ADU project process. Through facilitated meetings, interviews, and outreach efforts, we coordinate involved agencies and service providers to understand where the ADU process is difficult, complicated, or lengthy and provide guidance – from suggestions on process to overview handouts.

Homeowner Outreach & Industry Engagement

Community and expert input for effective ADU programs and solutions

Input from local homeowners and industry professionals (contractors, architects, realtors, etc.) can help shape ADU programs by identifying opportunities, difficulties, and goals. We utilize focus groups, surveys, community meetings, and other engagement techniques to gather information and experiences that inform our work.
