If you follow CPC’s work, you know we love to talk about Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). We have nearly a decade of experience creating award-winning custom tools for jurisdictions to support ADU development, from our comprehensive ADU guidebooks to custom homeowner handouts to online tools like our ADU calculator. 

On the eve of us launching our most innovative ADU tools yet, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of ADUAccelerator.org, the new home for our web-based ADU platforms.

Why a new website and brand?

We’re still the same team offering the same services and resources as before, but this new brand showcases the tools we offer for accelerating ADU development to exceed your housing goals. This new website and brand put our ADU tools in one place, helping jurisdictions see what’s available and receive cohesive support. 

Why now?

CPC has been making ADU tools and resources for almost ten years now, and we’ve learned a lot of along the way. Our work has gained recognition and praise, including multiple APA awards. We are excited and ready to meet the needs of a changing ADU landscape, including:

  1. Required pre-approved plans program for all California jurisdictions
    AB 1332 requires California jurisdictions to have a pre-approved ADU plans program with an online list or gallery  by January 1, 2025. (Psst, our Plans Gallery product is open for signups now!)

  2. Expanding interest in ADUs
    Other states including Washington, Oregon, and Colorado have shown increasing interest in ADU development. We have staff members and experience in all three of those states, as well as others, and look forward to expanding our work to new locations.

  3. A new wave of local government communications and service
    Local jurisdictions around the country are focusing more on accessible materials and opportunities for connecting with their communities. This is where we excel. Someone building an ADU may be engaging in a local government process for the first time ever, and we take that seriously as an opportunity to bridge a supportive and positive connection to your jurisdiction through clear, high-quality, and friendly public information. 

What comes next? 

We’re always innovating and finding new ways to support jurisdictions, designers, and communities. This year we are launching the new and improved ADU Plans Gallery to help jurisdictions with their pre-approved ADU plans programs (for California jurisdictions, this means meeting – and exceeding! – the requirements of AB 1332). We’re also rolling out substantial improvements to our popular ADU Calculator tool, updating the homeowner and jurisdiction user experience.
