Salt Lake City Anti-Displacement Strategy Public Review Draft Released

Thriving in Place, Salt Lake City's Anti-Displacement Strategy, was just released for public review. The draft strategy defines 6 goals and 22 strategic priorities to address the multiple factors that drive displacement and to create long-term solutions that can help residents and communities remain in place and thrive. Among its recommendations is creation of a Community Benefit Policy to mitigate the impact that new development has on existing affordable housing; a tenant relocation fund and program; and a new focus on creating shared equity housing through City and partner investments (led by a $10 million investment in Mayor Mendenhall's recently released recommended budget for 2023/24). Community Planning Collaborative led the strategy's development with a multi-department City team and community partners. Huge thanks to our City partners as well as our team members from the Urban Displacement Project at University of California, Berkeley and from the Department of City and Metropolitan Planning at the University of Utah. Most of all, deep gratitude to the thousands of Salt Lake City residents who gave their time and input to inform and shape the strategy and its recommendations.
