Climate Forward SLC

Salt Lake City has adopted bold climate goals: to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2030 and reduce emissions 80% by 2040 (from a 2009 baseline). For the past ten years the City team has been working to achieve those goals, guided by the Climate Positive 2040 Roadmap adopted in 2016.

The Climate Positive SLC initiative is updating the City’s climate action framework and developing what will be the city’s first Council-adopted climate action plan. CPC is working as an extension of SLC’s Department of Sustainability staff team to help guide and implement the planning process and develop the updated plan.

As of early 2026, CPC has developed the project branding and website content; helped with an online community survey, intercept surveys, and online business survey; and helped develop the Existing Conditions Report, targeted for release in April 2026.

CPC will also be lead author for the updated plan, facilitate engagement of the City’s leadership team, and help develop the project’s engagement and communications strategy to ensure a strong focus on equity and on delivering multi-benefit outcomes that not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also support critical community goals related to affordability, mobility, health, and economic vitality.
